Case Description
While five city officials, including and led by Captain Cesare Terzi the Gualdarano of the Most Illustrious Lord Lorenzo Giustiniano, were in a verbal dispute with boatmen at the Ponte delle Navi they were attacked by soldati of Counti Girolamo Pompei. The assailants fired arquebuses down from the windows of the Count's residency nearby. One deputy, Bastian Manueli, was struck in the shoulder and with great difficulty retreated to safety. Andrea Milan retreated towards the Adige River where he was pursued by the soldati. Being cornered, un an attempt to save himself he jumped into the river where he was shot by continuous arquebus volleys and drowned in the current. A third official also fled into the river and was fired at, but emerged without any wounds.
Motive
The soldati of Count Pompei claimed that Ministrs of Justice were forbidden from walking along the street where the attack took place. Furthermore, they maintained a standing body of men at the Count's house to enforce this "ban."
