Case Description
Cristoforo, Agostino Pecorini, and Domenico Negras Carolotti, Piedmontese natives residing in Polesine, were attacked by a number of other locals after Nicolò, Vanna, and Bonato had conceived suspicions of their identities. Giustino followed the travelers down the road towards Cavalcasselle and incited a pursuit with shouts and an order to ring the alarm bell. More and more assailants joined chasing the travelers who were overtaken in a nearby valley. Cristoforo and Agostino were killed by arquebus wounds and the former was abused and insulted while dying. The priest providing him last rights was even insulted with death threats. Other companions with the travelers Bernardino Monagia and Teodoro Bonato fled for their lives. Additionally, Domenico Giustino was killed having fled to the house of Iseppo Lonardi with the dying Cristoforo was killed by Bonato with birdshot and various stab and slashing wounds.
Motive
Suspicions spread by Bonato, Nicolò, and Vanna that the victim's identities were false.
