Case Description
Bartolomeo Merighi was wounded from behind by Giovanni son of Domenico with a blunderbuss while kneeling and reciting the Ave Maria in the Church of San Sebastiano.
Motive
The assailant was likely commissioned to try and kill the victim by Giovanni Marzano and his sons. Merighi had been engaged in a civil lawsuit against them and they had sought multiple means to kill him.
