Case #1807
Case Description
Lord Giovanni Battista Sagramoso was assassinated while travelling to a meeting intended to reconcile two parties in an enmity. He and his two brothers along with Marchese Bonifatio della Torre, the mediator, were attacked by a hidden assailant, or assailants, with an arquebus. The shot pierced Giovanni Battista in the side and he died quickly. Bonifatio was also hit and wounded in the thigh. The assailant(s) escaped out the back of the abandoned shop they used to stage the attack through a portello.
Motive
Enmity: The Sagramoso brothers had an enmity with Lord Giovanni Giona of Bardolino due to a grave offense that Giovannia Battista Sagramoso had given to Giona. From this enmity another was born between GB Sagramoso and Count Giovanni Carlo Emili due to the former's suspicion that the latter was conspiring with Giona as he was an adherent of Giona's. This latter enmity was the one which was to be mediated by dalla Torre with the homicide occurring as the victim traveled to said meeting.
