Case Description
Ser Gasparo Zane, son of the late Ser Andrea, accustomed to dressing with a short cap and living on the fondamenta of San Fosca is accused of the following: that having attributed as an insult certain words said by the late Benetto Buriago of Treviso; While this Zane, accompanied by two others, passing the Bridge of the Maddalena, were using terms of insolent words towards a certain widow woman; The aforesaid Zane, on Friday, the day of San Marcilian the first of July past went to the said church of San Marcilian and while the aforesaid Benetto was entering into it, without any thought of being offended, this Zane, with a fierce blow right inside said church, wounded him from behind in the head with a stiletto or similar sharp weapon with very great scandal, and murmuring of everyone; from which wound, a few days later, he died.
