Niccolo was guarding the door when he heard a little girl crying, and he went outside to have a look and saw a youth, the son of Camillo Garoni, on the ground with blood pouring from his nose, wiping it with a leaf; the youth tried to get up and walk but fell down again, and the guard went to get the Arciprete, and by the time he was back the youth was dead and some folks had moved him under the gate

Motive

a few days ago, Benedetto had tried to seduce Niccolo's sister Cecilia, who is engaged to someone else
