massaro was told that Carlo had been killed, went and checked out the body, searched the killers' houses (after wife told him where) but found nothing but a felt hat in a stall; Carlo was ambushed by five guys, the one who fired the shot was hidden in a casetta in front of his house; they shot him as he was leaving the house

dispute over inheritance between brothers; plus brewed resentment against employers.
