Bartolomeo was in Modena with a couple friends who had business (he has relatives there), and one night after going out to play the violin in company with his relatives, who are in the Duke of Modena's service, he was waiting to get back into his hosteria, playing the violin, when 4 guys jumped him and stabbed him in the groin

Motive

publica voce in Modena says that someone threw rocks at the Conte earlier and he thought it was Bartolomeo
