Case #3512
Case Description
Officers of the territorial militia were sent to Avesa to apprehend the murderers of SIgnor Camillo Pellegrini (see case 3511), Domenico, Antonio, and Cesare Mantovani. The officers traveled to the house of the two brothers, Domenico and Antonio, and at the time of their arrival found Antonio, Cesare his nephew, and another brother Guglielmo present. The Mantovani's violently resisted the attempted arrest with Cesare blocking the house's main threshold and immediately firing an arquebus at the officers killing one instantly. Cesare was then immediately killed by return fire. The officers then attempted to storm the house and one seized Antonio by the hair, but was assaulted by Guglielmo with a stiletto. Wounded twice the officer was forced to release Antonio and both sides retreated from the engagement and fled.
