Case #4087
Case Description
On account of building previous grievances, the brothers Giovanni Francesco and Alessandro Guagnini along with Nicolo Lovo ordered Piero Margariti and Zanin Marangon to kill Leonardo Miniscalco. The two assassins, along with Alfonso Modenese, were sent to Venice to kill him during Carnival. However it was later in La Creda during May that the attack took place. Margariti and Marangon set up in the hayloft near the victim's house where they fired arquebuses down at Miniscalco from loopholes in the structure when he entered the road. The two shots struck the victim in the left leg and his side and he died from the wounds after being dragged back into his house.
Motive
The Guagnini brothers and Nicolo Lovo bore hatred for Miniscalco due to the irrigation of certain rice fields which caused disputes. This was further exacerbated by Miniscalco going through the courts to have the irrigation destroyed or altered some way in his favor which incensed the Guagnini. Following this legal decision they determined to end Miniscalco's life.
